Meinl Heavy Cymbal Bacon - Bigger Ball Bearings, Harsher Sizzle

The Meinl Heavy Cymbal Bacon is the more aggressive sibling of the standard Cymbal Bacon. Where the original uses a metal chain for a subtle, light sizzle, the Heavy version is constructed from steel ball bearings - larger and heavier than the standard model - for a harsher, more pronounced sizzle with greater impact on the cymbal sound.

No rivets, no drilling, no permanent modification. Attach it to your cymbal, get the sizzle you want, remove it when you don't. The cymbal stays in optimum condition throughout - no scratches, no damage.

Key Features

  • Steel ball bearing construction - larger, heavier bearings produce a harsher, more pronounced sizzle than the chain-based standard model
  • Greater sizzle impact - more aggressive tonal effect suited to louder, more dynamic playing contexts
  • No drilling or rivets required - adds sizzle without any permanent cymbal modification
  • Cymbal safe - prevents scratches or damage to the cymbal surface while in use
  • Easy attachment and removal - place on and take off as desired throughout a performance
  • Suitable for a wide range of genres - jazz, funk, fusion, and beyond
  • Model: HBAC - Meinl Heavy Cymbal Bacon

Standard Cymbal Bacon vs Heavy Cymbal Bacon - Which Should You Choose?

The difference comes down to how much sizzle you want and how it sits in your playing context:

  • Meinl Cymbal Bacon (standard) - metal chain, subtle and light sizzle, sits underneath the cymbal tone without dominating - ideal for jazz, acoustic, and lower-volume settings where a delicate sizzle texture is preferred
  • Meinl Heavy Cymbal Bacon (this model) - steel ball bearings, harsher and more pronounced sizzle, greater impact on the overall cymbal sound - ideal for drummers who want a more assertive sizzle effect that cuts through in louder or more dynamic contexts
  • Evans Cymbal Sizzler (2 chain pack) - ball-joint clip attaches directly to the cymbal, two chains for variable sizzle intensity

Who Is It For?

  • Drummers who want more sizzle - the heavy ball bearing construction delivers a noticeably more aggressive effect than the standard Bacon
  • Jazz and fusion drummers - the sizzle effect is a defining characteristic of these genres, and the Heavy version suits more dynamic playing
  • Any drummer who wants the riveted cymbal sound without the permanent commitment, with more presence and impact than a standard sizzler
