Build Your Dream Ludwig Kit: Introducing the Into Music X Ludwig Custom Kit Builder

Build Your Dream Ludwig Kit: Introducing the Into Music X Ludwig Custom Kit Builder

You know the Ludwig kit in your head. The finish, the tom sizes, the way it sits on stage. Perhaps it has the familiar proportions of a classic setup. Perhaps it looks nothing like the three-piece kit people picture when they hear the Ludwig name.

We wanted to make exploring that kit easier. So we have created the Into Music Ludwig Custom Kit Builder: an innovative piece of technology built specifically by Into Music, giving you a new way to specify your dream Ludwig kit.

We are debuting the builder exclusively at the UK Drum Show 2026. Come to the Into Music stand to be among the first to try it. After its show debut, it will launch on our website so you can explore your build wherever you are.

Ludwig has much more to offer than the classic three-piece

A simple Ludwig setup has a look all its own. But that familiar image is a starting point, not a limit on what the brand can offer.

Your ideal kit might be a focused setup with carefully chosen dimensions. It might have additional toms, a different balance of drum sizes or a finish you have never seen on a shop floor. There is room to think beyond the configurations that happen to be sitting in stock.

Our builder brings those possibilities into the conversation. Instead of asking which ready-made kit comes closest, you can start asking what you would choose if the kit were specified around you.

More than a century of Ludwig, with room for your own story

Ludwig's story began in 1909, when William F. and Theobald Ludwig founded Ludwig & Ludwig. That history is part of the appeal: you are choosing a name with generations of drum-making behind it.

But heritage does not mean having to recreate someone else's setup. The next chapter can be yours. Keep the visual character you love, explore something unexpected or combine familiar details with a configuration that suits the music you make today.

That is the idea behind our builder: respect the history, then use the available choices to make the kit personal.

Choose Classic Maple or Classic Oak

Your build starts with a choice between Classic Maple and Classic Oak shells. From there, you can work through the configuration and details rather than treating the shell family as the whole decision.

If you are unsure where to begin, talk to us about the music you play, the kit you currently use and what you want to change. A custom specification should have a purpose beyond adding options to a list.

Explore 38 finishes, including custom factory-order choices

The builder offers a range of 38 finishes, bringing together paint and wrap options. It opens up choices beyond the finishes you might normally encounter on a ready-to-buy kit.

Among the custom factory-order finishes you can explore are Heritage Green, Birds Eye Maple, African Bubinga, Classic Olive Pearl and Hybrid Black Sparkle. These finishes are available through custom factory orders, giving you a way to move beyond an off-the-shelf specification.

Think about the identity you want the kit to have. A finish can be understated, richly detailed or unmistakable under stage lighting. You do not have to choose only from what is already on the showroom floor.

A finish name describes an appearance; it should not be confused with your selected shell construction. Choose the shell family and finish as separate parts of the build.

Specify the sizes that suit your playing

Drum sizes shape the layout of your kit as well as its appearance. The builder lets you choose your configuration, including exclusive sizes available only through the custom builder.

That gives you room to think carefully about the relationship between the kick and toms, the space around your playing position and the instruments you actually use.

You might want to keep things focused, expand your tom voices or explore dimensions outside a standard shell pack. The point is not to build the biggest kit possible. It is to specify the kit you genuinely want to play.

Make the details your own

Shells, finish and sizes are only the beginning. The builder also gives you choices for:

  • Lugs: specify another part of the kit's visual and hardware identity.
  • Badges: consider the finishing detail that connects the kit to its Ludwig character.
  • Bearing edges: make this part of the specification rather than leaving it out of the conversation.
  • Mounting options: choose around how you want to position and use the drums.

From the big decisions to the smaller details, the aim is to put the specification in your hands. Explore the options offered for your chosen build, and ask us for help if you want to understand what a particular choice means.

“Custom” should be more than selecting a colour. It should let you consider the whole kit and how its parts work together.

Technology built for Into Music, backed by a conversation with drummers

We have created this technology specifically to make Ludwig's custom possibilities easier to explore. It brings the choices into one place and gives you a practical starting point for building your dream kit.

It does not replace the value of talking to someone about the instrument. If you are weighing up sizes, shell families or mounting details, we are here to help turn those options into a coherent specification.

Custom factory orders are different from choosing an in-stock kit. Before committing to an order, speak to us about the final specification, pricing and current lead times. The exciting part is making it yours; the important part is making sure the details are right.

Try it first at the UK Drum Show 2026

We are launching the technology exclusively at the UK Drum Show 2026, and we would love you to come and explore it with us.

Visit the Ludwig X Into Music stand to be among the first to try the Ludwig Custom Kit Builder. Bring an idea, a question or simply some curiosity. Start with your favourite finish, experiment with a different configuration or ask us how to approach a build from scratch.

It is your chance to look beyond the familiar kit photographs and discover what your own Ludwig specification could be.

After the show: build online, wherever you are

Following its UK Drum Show debut, the builder will launch on the Into Music website for anyone to use. You will be able to explore your ideas online across the UK, with our team available to help you take the next step.

For now, come and see us at the show for the first look. To discuss a custom Ludwig kit, call 01507 526517 or visit our Horncastle showroom in Lincolnshire.

Ludwig has the heritage. You have the ideas. We are bringing you a new way to put them together.
