Bass Drum O's were invented by drummer and inventor Kevin Fryer, who wanted a better solution to the problem of ragged, torn port holes in bass drum resonant heads. Before Bass Drum O's, drummers would cut a hole in their reso head and leave the edge exposed — over time, the head material would fray and tear, looking unprofessional and potentially affecting the head's integrity.
