About RTOM Black Hole
RTOM developed the Black Hole to solve one of the most persistent problems in drumming — how to practise on your own acoustic kit without generating the volume that makes acoustic drumming impractical in most home environments. Electronic drum kits offer one solution, but they require a separate instrument with a different feel and setup to your acoustic kit. Rubber practice pads offer another, but they don't replicate the feel of a real drum head and can't be used on the kit itself.
The Black Hole takes a different approach: rather than replacing your kit or adding a separate practice instrument, it converts your existing acoustic kit into a near-silent practice kit by snapping a tuneable mesh head directly over each drum. The mesh head absorbs the impact of the stick and dramatically reduces the volume of each stroke, while the tunable tension allows you to adjust the rebound to closely mimic the feel of a real drum head. The result is a practice experience that is far more realistic and satisfying than a flat rubber pad, on your own kit, in your own setup.
The snap-on design requires no tools and no permanent modification — the Black Hole can be fitted and removed in seconds, making it practical to switch between practice mode and full-volume playing as needed. This is a significant advantage over solutions that require disassembly or head replacement.
The trigger 5-pack extends the Black Hole's versatility further, allowing drummers to connect their converted acoustic kit to an electronic drum module. This means you can practise with near-silent mesh heads while triggering any sound from your module — combining the feel of your own acoustic kit with the sound flexibility of an electronic system.
