RTOM is an American percussion brand best known for the Black Hole — one of the most innovative and effective silent practice solutions available for drummers. The Black Hole is a snap-on tuneable mesh head that fits directly over your existing drum heads, instantly converting your acoustic kit into a near-silent practice kit without any permanent modification. With a comprehensive range of sizes covering every drum in a standard kit — from 8" toms to 22" bass drums — the Black Hole system allows you to practise on your own kit, with your own setup, at any time of day or night.

At Into Music we stock the full RTOM Black Hole range covering tom sizes from 8" to 16" and bass drum sizes from 18" to 22", plus the Black Hole Single-Zone Trigger 5-pack.

RTOM Black Hole Practice Pads

The Black Hole snap-on mesh head fits over your existing drum head without tools or permanent modification — simply press it on to convert your drum to near-silent practice mode, and remove it just as easily when you want to play at full volume. The tuneable mesh head allows you to adjust the tension for a realistic rebound that closely mimics the feel of a real drum head, making the Black Hole a far more satisfying practice experience than a flat rubber pad.

Available in sizes to cover every drum in your kit:

RTOM Black Hole Single-Zone Trigger — 5 Pack

The Black Hole Single-Zone Trigger 5-pack allows you to connect your Black Hole-equipped acoustic kit to an electronic drum module, triggering samples while playing on your own kit with near-silent mesh heads. This bridges the gap between acoustic and electronic drumming — the feel of your own kit with the sound flexibility of an electronic module.

About RTOM Black Hole

RTOM developed the Black Hole to solve one of the most persistent problems in drumming — how to practise on your own acoustic kit without generating the volume that makes acoustic drumming impractical in most home environments. Electronic drum kits offer one solution, but they require a separate instrument with a different feel and setup to your acoustic kit. Rubber practice pads offer another, but they don't replicate the feel of a real drum head and can't be used on the kit itself.

The Black Hole takes a different approach: rather than replacing your kit or adding a separate practice instrument, it converts your existing acoustic kit into a near-silent practice kit by snapping a tuneable mesh head directly over each drum. The mesh head absorbs the impact of the stick and dramatically reduces the volume of each stroke, while the tunable tension allows you to adjust the rebound to closely mimic the feel of a real drum head. The result is a practice experience that is far more realistic and satisfying than a flat rubber pad, on your own kit, in your own setup.

The snap-on design requires no tools and no permanent modification — the Black Hole can be fitted and removed in seconds, making it practical to switch between practice mode and full-volume playing as needed. This is a significant advantage over solutions that require disassembly or head replacement.

The trigger 5-pack extends the Black Hole's versatility further, allowing drummers to connect their converted acoustic kit to an electronic drum module. This means you can practise with near-silent mesh heads while triggering any sound from your module — combining the feel of your own acoustic kit with the sound flexibility of an electronic system.

The RTOM Black Hole dramatically reduces the volume of your acoustic kit, making it suitable for home practice at times when full-volume playing would be impractical. While no acoustic practice solution is completely silent — some impact noise is transmitted through the stand and floor — the Black Hole reduces the airborne sound significantly, making it a practical solution for most home environments.
RTOM Black Hole pads are available in sizes from 8" to 22", covering every drum in a standard kit. For a typical 5-piece kit you would need pads for your snare (usually 14"), toms (commonly 10", 12" and 14" or 16") and bass drum (usually 20" or 22"). Check your drum sizes before ordering to ensure you get the right fit for each drum.
