The JBL BandBox Trio is a portable practice amp and speaker with a particularly useful trick for drummers: it can remove the drums from a streamed track, leaving space for you to play your own part. Add 135W output, a built-in 4-channel mixer and practice tools, and you have a flexible setup for playing along, rehearsing with friends and developing ideas.

Why we love it for drummers

Playing along to favourite songs is great fun, but the original drum part can mask what you're actually playing. BandBox Trio's Stem AI lets you remove drums from Bluetooth-streamed music in real time, so you can work on your groove, fills and arrangement against the rest of the track rather than doubling the recorded drummer.

You can also isolate the drum part to listen more closely to a pattern before trying it yourself. Use the onboard metronome for focused timing practice, then return to the backing track to hear how your part sits with the music. It's a useful bridge between learning a song and putting your own stamp on it.

Play along with your streaming playlists

Pair your phone or tablet with the BandBox Trio over Bluetooth, then play music from a streaming service such as Spotify or Apple Music. The service plays on your device, while the Trio processes the incoming Bluetooth audio with Stem AI to isolate or remove drums, vocals or guitar in real time. That means you can practise with tracks from your usual playlists without first preparing a separate backing track.

Not just for the drummer

Stem AI also separates vocals and guitar, making the Trio useful for singers learning a melody and guitarists working through a solo. Built-in guitar amp models cover clean sounds through to distortion, with effects including phaser, chorus and reverb. Microphone reverb and delay help shape vocals, while the 4-channel mixer brings multiple sources together for shared practice sessions.

Practice, jam & capture ideas

  • Real-time Stem AI: isolate or remove drums, vocals and guitar from Bluetooth-streamed tracks to build a more useful practice mix.
  • 135W JBL sound: one 6.5-inch woofer and two 1-inch tweeters for music playback and instrument practice.
  • Built-in 4-channel mixer: combine multiple sources in one portable setup.
  • Tuner, metronome & looper: tools for tuning, timing and developing musical ideas.
  • Guitar & microphone effects: amp models and guitar effects, plus vocal reverb and delay.
  • Built-in audio interface: connect to your laptop via USB-C to record into your Digital Audio Workstation.
  • Up to 10 hours' playtime: battery-powered portability with a replaceable JBL Battery 400.
  • Colour LCD & JBL One app: access controls on the speaker, with further app control of sound, practice tools and stem separation.

A versatile addition to your practice setup

For drummers, the standout benefit is turning familiar songs into backing tracks you can genuinely make your own. For guitarists and singers, the onboard sounds and effects add another reason to keep it close by. If your practice sessions move between solo playing and jamming with other musicians, the Trio brings those jobs together in one unit.
