G-Maple Shell Construction

The G-Maple name refers to the shell's substantial construction: 11mm thick, built from 12 plies of maple with a single outer ply of Mappa Burl. Where standard snare drums typically use thinner shells, the G-Maple's extra mass produces a noticeably different sonic result — a bright, projecting sound with increased volume and strong sensitivity across the dynamic range. The thick maple construction gives you a clear, defined attack that cuts through in a live or recording context, while the depth of tone from the 11mm shell prevents it from feeling thin or brittle. At 7" deep, this is a full, commanding snare voice with real authority.

Hardware & Heads

10-hole die-cast hoops are fitted throughout, providing precise, consistent tuning stability and a focused, controlled feel at the rim. MTL60 tube lugs minimise shell contact and contribute to the open, resonant character of the shell. The strainer setup uses Tama's MLS50A strainer and MLS50B butt plate for smooth, reliable snare wire tension control. The snare wires themselves are 20-strand Starclassic Hi-Carbon snare wires (MS20SN14C) — the same high-carbon steel wires found on Tama's flagship Starclassic drums, delivering a crisp, sensitive snare response with fast articulation. An Evans G1 Coated batter head and Evans Resonant Snare Side head come pre-fitted, giving you a quality, gig-ready setup straight from the box.

Mappa Burl is one of the most visually dramatic exotic wood veneers used in drum building. The burl figure — formed by irregular, swirling grain patterns caused by stress or abnormal growth — produces a surface that's unique on every drum. The Twilight Mappa Burl finish deepens the natural figure with a rich, dark toning that draws out the depth and complexity of the grain.
