The SONOR Artist Series 14" x 5" Vintage Maple Snare Drum combines an exceptionally thin maple shell with a premium Scandinavian Birch outer veneer and striking gold hardware, creating one of the most distinctive snares in SONOR's German-made Artist Series.
At the heart of the drum is SONOR's 6-ply, 4mm Vintage Maple shell, reinforced with 3-ply, 2mm reinforcement rings. This thin-shell construction is designed for excellent resonance and a clear, transparent response, while the classic 14" x 5" dimensions provide the sensitivity and versatility expected from a premium main snare.
The natural Scandinavian Birch exterior is finished in Semi-Gloss lacquer and paired with gold hardware for an unmistakably high-end appearance.
Thin Vintage Maple Shell
Unlike the thicker Medium Maple construction used on some other SONOR Artist snares, this model uses a particularly thin 6-ply, 4mm Vintage Maple shell.
SONOR adds 3-ply, 2mm reinforcement rings to the shell, combining the resonance of the thin central shell with additional structural support around the top and bottom.
SONOR describes the resulting sound as warm and rich while retaining excellent resonance and a clear, transparent character – making it suitable for a wide variety of musical styles.
Scandinavian Birch Semi-Gloss
Although its appearance is dominated by Scandinavian Birch, this is fundamentally a Maple-shell snare drum.
Scandinavian Birch is used for the premium exterior veneer, finished in a Semi-Gloss lacquer that allows the natural figuring of the wood to remain a major part of the drum's appearance.
It's paired with gold hardware, creating one of the most recognisable finishes in SONOR's Artist Series.
Single-Flange Hoops & Dual Glide
SONOR fits this model with single-flange hoops, complementing the thin Vintage Maple shell and giving the drum a different construction from the die-cast hoops found on the 14" x 6" Cottonwood Artist snare.
