Maple/Birch Hybrid Shell Construction
The Starclassic Performer uses a birch-dominant maple/birch hybrid shell — a different character from the walnut/birch found in the Starclassic Walnut/Birch series. The tom and floor tom shells are built from 4 plies of birch with 2 inner plies of maple at 6mm, while the bass drum uses a heavier 5-ply birch and 2 inner-ply maple construction at 7mm. Birch delivers a crisp, punchy attack with tighter low end and strong projection, while the maple inner plies add warmth and body to round out the overall tone. The result is a powerful, articulate sound with depth — a combination that works across rock, pop, funk, and live performance contexts where cut and presence matter.
Configuration
This 5-piece shell pack is built around a 22"x16" bass drum, with 10"x8" and 12"x9" rack toms and 14"x12" and 16"x14" floor toms — giving you four tom voices across a wide size range. The full-depth 16" bass drum delivers genuine weight and presence, and the dual floor toms extend your low-end options considerably.
