Hybrid Shell Construction

Where single-species shells make a compromise, the Starclassic Walnut/Birch doesn't. Tama combines the crisp, well-defined attack of birch with the warmer low and mid-frequency depth of American Black Walnut, producing a shell that punches hard, sings with tone, and sits beautifully in a mix. Tom and floor tom shells are built from 4 plies of birch with 2 inner plies of American Black Walnut at 6mm, while the bass drum uses a heavier-duty 5-ply birch and 2-ply American Black Walnut construction at 8mm for a fuller, more authoritative low end.

Configuration

This shell pack includes a 22"x14" bass drum, 12"x8" rack tom, and 16"x16" floor tom. The 14" depth on the kick gives it a classic profile without sacrificing the weight and presence you'd expect from a 22" shell. An MC69 Single Tom Attachment is included, so the rack tom mounts cleanly from a cymbal stand without needing a separate rack or stand.

Hardware & Mounting

Tama's Star-Cast Mounting System isolates the rack tom from any hardware contact, allowing the shell to resonate fully and freely.
