Maple Shell Construction
The Superstar Classic is built on 100% maple with Lacebark Pine outer plies throughout. Maple delivers the warm, full-bodied tone and balanced frequency response that has made it the benchmark shell material for professional drummers for decades. The toms, floor toms, and snare use 4 plies of maple with 2 outer plies of Lacebark Pine at 5mm, while the bass drum steps up to a 6-ply maple and 2-ply Lacebark Pine construction at 7mm for a deeper, more commanding low end. The Lacebark Pine outer plies also provide the canvas for the stunning Indigo Bintangor Burst finish across all seven shells.
Configuration
Seven drums give you a genuinely expansive tonal palette. The rack toms run 8"x6", 10"x7", and 12"x8", covering everything from tight, punchy accents to full mid-range tones. The floor toms — 14"x12" and 16"x14" — give you two distinct voices on the low end of your kit. A 22"x16" bass drum provides a powerful foundation, and the included 14"x6.5" snare completes the configuration. Mounting hardware includes the MTH600 Double Tom Holder for the two larger rack toms and an MC69 Single Tom Attachment for the 8" tom, using Tama's L-Rod and Omnisphere system for flexible, stable positioning throughout.
Star-Mount System
Tama's Star-Mount system connects to four points on the batter-side hoop rather than routing through the shell interior, keeping each tom free to resonate without restriction. Bracket eye-bolts can also slide laterally, which is particularly useful on a 7-piece setup where positioning multiple rack toms in close proximity is common — preventing contact between brackets without forcing you to compromise on tom placement.
Low-Mass Hardware
The Superstar Classic uses compact, separate low-mass lugs throughout, minimising hardware contact with each shell surface and preserving natural resonance.
