The G1 Clear produces a bright, open tone with maximum resonance. The G1 Coated adds a thin coating that warms the tone slightly, reduces some of the high-frequency brightness, and produces a slightly drier attack — particularly noticeable when played with brushes, where the coated surface provides the texture needed for brush sweeping and swirling.

Compared to the Evans G2, the G1 is thinner, more resonant, and more sensitive — but also less durable and more prone to overtones in louder playing contexts.
