The Evans G2 is a two-ply drum head and one of the most widely used tom batter heads in the world — delivering a warm, controlled tone with reduced overtones and excellent durability across all playing styles and volumes. The two-ply construction gives the G2 a fuller, more focused sound than a single-ply head, with a natural dampening effect that suits rock, pop, funk, and general playing without the need for additional muffling. The Evans G2 is the world's most popular two-ply tom batter head and a benchmark against which many other heads are measured. The two-ply construction — two layers of film bonded together — produces a warmer, more controlled tone than a single-ply head, with a natural dampening effect that reduces overtones without the need for tape or gel pads. This makes the G2 an extremely practical head for live and recording use across virtually every style.

The G2 Clear produces a bright, punchy attack with a warm, controlled sustain — the most versatile option for most drummers. The G2 Coated adds a thin coating that warms the tone further, reduces high-frequency brightness, and produces a slightly drier, more focused attack. The Coated finish is particularly popular for recording, where a warmer, more vintage-influenced tom sound is often preferred.

Compared to the Evans G1, the G2 is thicker, more durable, and more controlled — better suited to moderate to loud playing and styles where overtone control is important. Compared to the Evans EC2, the G2 has a more open, natural character without the SST collar's additional overtone reduction.
