The Evans Hydraulic is a two-ply drum head with a thin layer of oil sealed between the two plies — a construction that produces one of the darkest, most dampened tones available from a drum head. The oil layer absorbs vibration and dramatically reduces sustain and overtones, giving the Hydraulic a thick, punchy, highly controlled sound that is particularly associated with classic rock and studio recording.
