Canopus Back Beat 14" Snare Wires - 20 Strand Dry (CPSS-BB14DR)

The Canopus Back Beat Dry Snare Wires deliver the same powerful, projection-focused engineering as the Back Beat series - but with a darker, drier tone character that makes them the natural choice for wood-shell snare drums. Loud, aggressive backbeats with sharp ghost note response, all wrapped in a warm, focused sound that sits beautifully in a mix.

Built on the same spiral wire and 1mm end-plate platform as the rest of the Back Beat range, the Dry series is where Canopus's engineering precision meets a more classic, woody snare character.

Key Features

  • 20 strand configuration - balanced response across the full snare head for even articulation
  • Dry series finish - darker, warmer tone than the chrome plated counterpart - ideal for wood-shell snare drums
  • Spiral wires with abundant coils - swift response for ghost notes and delicate phrasing alongside powerful backbeats
  • 1mm end-plates - precise, consistent contact with the snare head for even response and no dead spots
  • Loud attack with sharp ghost note response - volume and sensitivity in a single wire
  • 14in size - fits standard 14in snare drums
  • Model: CPSS-BB14DR - Dry finish Back Beat series

What Makes the Dry Series Different?

The Dry series produces a noticeably darker, more focused tone than the chrome plated Back Beat wires. Where the Chrome Plated (CPSS-BB14NP) adds brightness and cut - particularly effective on metal shells - the Dry series complements the natural warmth and resonance of wood-shell snare drums. The result is a fat, controlled backbeat with a classic, woody character and sharp articulation on lighter playing.

Dry vs Chrome Plated - Which Should You Choose?

Who Is It For?

  • Wood-shell snare drum owners - the Dry finish enhances and complements the natural warmth of wooden shells
  • Rock, jazz, and blues drummers - the darker tone sits naturally in genre contexts where a classic, woody snare sound is preferred
  • Studio drummers - a focused, controlled snare sound that's easy to place in a mix without excessive brightness
  • Drummers who play loud but need sensitivity - ghost notes and subtle nuances are not sacrificed for backbeat volume
